Beer-Simmered Grilled Sausages Serves 6-8 2 packages Johnsonville brats (if you don't buy Wisconsin brats, then there is no use in making this recipe) 1 granny smith apple 1 yellow onion olive oil 3-4 cups of beer (Otto's is good, don't use a stout or light beer, go with a medium ale or lager) Prick each sausage about 1/2 dozen times with a fork. Put them in a ziploc bag with cold beer and let them marinade for about 1 hour. While the brats are marinading, cut up the apple and onion in big chunks and sautee in a large pot with the olive oil. Let cook for about 10-15 minutes. Once the brats are marinaded, poor the beer off the brats into the pot with the cooked onion and apple. Grill the brats on medium-high (stovetop or outside grill) for about 5 minutes while the beer mixture heats up. Put the grilled brats in the beer and let simmer 20-30 minutes on low. Discard the beer mixture and serve the bras with crusty rolls and spicy brown mustard.
